2014 Pelicans Field Staff Announced

The Texas Rangers announced today the managers, coaches, and staff for all minor league affiliates in 2014. In 2013, the farm system produced its fifth top-7 finish in composite winning percentage since 2008 and the Rangers were the only organization to have every affiliate finish with at least a .500 record.  

The Texas organization features several new assignments in 2014, including a managerial change for the Pelicans. This season the flock will be lead by Joe Mikulik who makes his return to a managerial role after spending last season as a roving outfield instructor. Prior to joining the Rangers, Mikulik had a 13-year run as a manager in the Colorado farm system.

Much of the 2013 staff will make a return to Myrtle Beach this year. Steve Mintz who led the Pelicans to the second lowest ERA in the Carolina League in his first season as the club's pitching and will return. Josue Perez will enter his ninth season overall in the Texas organization and second as the hitting instructor in Myrtle Beach. Anthony Miller, who enters his fourth season, will also be returning as the Strength and Conditioning Coach. The 2014 staff is rounded out with the new addition of Athletic Trainer Jacob Newburn. Newburn is entering his ninth season as a trainer for the Texas organization.

FOLLOWING FORMER STAFF

Jason Wood, who served as the Pelicans Manager from 2011-13, has been called up to manage the Frisco Roughriders, Class AA Affiliate of the Rangers. Wood, who was named the 2013 Carolina League Manager of the Year, guided the Pelicans to the post-season each year during his time with Myrtle Beach.

Humberto Miranda, 2013 Pelicans Coach, will spend 2014 with the Rangers' Dominican team. Jeff Bodenhamer, after serving as the Pelicans Trainer for three seasons, takes over as the Rehab Athletic Trainer at the Rangers' Arizona complex.
