WOODBRIDGE, Va. (August 8, 2017) - A five-run Potomac second inning Tuesday propelled the Nationals by the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 7-2 at Pftizner Stadium.

Myrtle Beach (59-55, 16-28) led 1-0 when starter Casey Bloomquist (3-5) ceded a single to Ian Sagdal and double to Jackson Reetz to begin the second inning. David Masters followed with an RBI single to tie before Rhett Wiseman hit a sacrifice fly to right to give Potomac (51-62, 18-25) the 2-1 lead. Edwin Lora singled, and two batters later, Daniel Johnson ripped a two-run double. Jack Sundberg then lined an RBI single to right to widen the gap to 5-1.

Nationals starter Taylor Guilbeau (3-3) rolled from there. The southpaw yielded just two runs, one earned, on four hits in seven frames. He whiffed eight against one walk. Guilbeau combined with relievers Ronald Pena and R.C. Orlan to retire the final 13 Pelicans to come to the plate.

With the score still 5-1, Tyler Alamo jumpstarted the fifth inning with a double. He moved to third on a fly ball to right, and two batters after that, an error brought him in to move Myrtle Beach to within 5-2.

In the eighth, Masters singled to leadoff before Wiseman cracked a two-run home run to right to put the P-Nats ahead at 7-2.

The Birds got on the board in their first at-bats. Zack Short tripled on the second pitch of the game before P.J. Higgins notched an RBI groundout to give Myrtle Beach a 1-0 advantage.

Both Scott Effross and Kyle Miller worked two scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the Pelicans.
