MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 17, 2017) - In a society perhaps more divided now than ever, nothing seems to separate people more than the age-old debate of pizza. On Friday, August 4, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, and Brooklyn Cyclones, Short Season Class A affiliate of the New York Mets, will join forces for a one night-only promo in two different ballparks to finally determine which city - Chicago or New York - has the best pizza in the world.

The Pelicans will be kneaded into the "Deep Dishers" for their 7:05 p.m. game against the Salem Red Sox on Pizza, Pizza Night at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. The night coincides with the club's new weekly promotion, Foodie Friday. Every Friday home game, fans will have the opportunity to upgrade their game day experience and enjoy specialty food items. This particular Friday will feature a pizza party. Meanwhile, the Pelicans' promotional counterparts in Brooklyn will toss the "Cyclones" name and become the "Slices" as they take on the Tri-City ValleyCats at MCU Park in Brooklyn.

"Much has been made about the pizzas in both Chicago and New York, and we're always appreciative of a crisp, Brooklyn slice," said Pelicans president/general manager Andy Milovich. "However, Myrtle Beach is independent of each city, and I can confidently say this area has been shown the light on deep dish pizza by our friends in the Midwest. The Chicago artisans have truly perfected the pizza pie."

As part of the night's festivities, the two ballparks will have a series of competitions between players, front office staff and fans to try and decide once and for all which city can truly lay claim to the title of Pizza Capital of the World. On behalf of the Windy City, Myrtle Beach will aim to prove that New York's thin-crust slice pales in comparison to the delicious layers of meat, vegetables, sweet tomato sauce, gooey mozzarella cheese and pie-like crust that adorns Chicago's deep dish classic.

Tickets to all Pelicans home games, including Pizza, Pizza Night on August 4, are available for purchase online at www.MyrtleBeachPelicans.com/Tickets.
