Without a parade in Pensacola on Martin Luther King Day, the Blue Wahoos staff headed to Milton for the special event.

Led by team president Jonathan Griffith and his children, the team’s front office staff were joined by mascot Kazoo on the parade route that began in front of Milton High School.

The group tossed beads, candy, greeted spectators and met a mission to help spread joy in the community.

“We have always done the downtown parade, but last year everything got cancelled due to Covid and this year they decided not to do it again, so we pivoted in a different way,” said Anna Striano, the Blue Wahoos director of community relations and team merchandise manager.

“I don’t think we have ever participated in the Milton parade before and it was fun for all of us to be part of the parade.”

The parade route traveled down Stewart Street toward Highway 90 near the downtown section.

“People were super excited to see Kazoo and we were able to bring some Wahoos stuff that we could hand out,” Striano said. “We know we have bunch of fans in Milton that make the trek down to Pensacola for games, so it was good for to get out to Milton and have us connect fans there.”

It was the Blue Wahoos second parade in a month. The front office staff, along with Kazoo, participated in the Cox Christmas Parade in Pensacola in early December.
