The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announced today that six members of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos roster have been named to the Southern League's South Division All-Star Team through voting by field managers, general managers, and radio broadcasters for all 10 Southern League clubs. Three pitchers from Pensacola's roster, Brusdar Graterol, Griffin Jax, and Ryan Mason, will join three position players, 2B Travis Blankenhorn, OF Jaylin Davis, and C Caleb Hamilton, on the roster for the All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 18 at MGM Park in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Graterol, the top pitching prospect in the Minnesota Twins organization, has been dominant this season, going 5-0 with a 1.89 ERA through 9 starts. With arguably the best fastball in the league, 20-year-old righty has struck out 46 batters in 47.2 innings this season while holding opponents to a .188 average. His ERA is third-best in the league among qualified pitchers.
Jax's numbers are equally impressive this season. The 24-year-old Air Force graduate holds a 1.79 ERA over 45.1 innings. No Southern League pitcher had a more dominant start to the year, as Jax allowed just two earned runs through his first six starts.
Mason has been a stalwart of the Blue Wahoos bullpen this season, saving seven games, third most in the league, and holding a 2.35 ERA and 11.0 K/9 ratio over 15 appearances. He's pitched multiple innings in over half of his outing this season, including five of his seven saves.
Blankenhorn, the Twins #28 prospect, has been one of the most productive hitters in the league since being promoted to Pensacola on April 26. Since joining the Wahoos, he leads the league in home runs (9) and total bases (83), is second in hits (48), and ranks among the top 10 in slugging (.539, 3rd), runs (24, 3rd), on-base plus slugging (.887, 5th, ), runs batted in (23, 6th), and batting average (.312, 7th).
Davis has been a consistent force in the middle of the Pensacola lineup throughout the season, posting an impressive .282/.387/.465 slash line with eight home runs, 21 runs batted in, and a team-leading 29 runs scored and 6 stolen bases. He ranks second on the team in hits (48), home runs, total bases (79), slugging (.465), and OPS (.852).
Hamilton has been a consistent and versatile defensive contributor for Pensacola, appearing at catcher (26 games), third base (15 games, and first base (4 games). On the offensive end, he is tied for the team-lead in runs batted in (23) and is third in total bases (59) while reaching base at an impressive .350 clip.
The initial All-Star roster is subject to change and will be updated as player transactions occur due to promotion, trade, or injury leading up to the All-Star festivities on June 18.
