After a standout season in which he finished second in the circuit in batting average, former Blue Wahoos first baseman Troy Johnston was named a Southern League All-Star on Tuesday in an announcement by Minor League Baseball.

Johnston, currently ranked Miami's #19 prospect by MLB Pipeline, made his Double-A debut on Opening Day for the Blue Wahoos. After a slow start to his season, the Gonzaga product caught fire at the plate in late May. In a stretch that earned him Southern League Player of the Week Honors, Johnston delivered clutch hits and dialed up his home run stroke.

Johnston was promoted to Triple-A Jacksonville in August, but still had enough plate appearances to qualify for the Southern League batting title. His .292 average at Double-A finished just one point shy of pacing the league.

Johnston becomes only the ninth Postseason All-Star in Blue Wahoos history, and just the fourth position player. The Blue Wahoos had a franchise record four All-Stars in 2021, with outfielder Peyton Burdick joined by pitchers Max Meyer, Jake Eder and Colton Hock.
