An inclement weather forecast on Sunday has forced a schedule change in the Wahoos Classic with Oklahoma and Virginia at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
The teams will now play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The second game will start at 4 p.m. Saturday or 30 minutes after conclusion of the first game.
No game will be played on Sunday. The decision was made Friday night after multiple weather forecasts showed a high probability of rain on Sunday.
Gates will open Saturday at 12 p.m. Tickets purchased in advance for Sunday's game will be honored for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Day of game ticket prices will remain the same.
"It is really important to get all three games in and that's why I'm sure the decision was made to play the doubleheader (Saturday) to ensure that we get it in," said Virginia head coach Brian O'Connor. "In college baseball season it's tough to make up games if you don't get them in.
"So you don't want to come out of the first week and be in that position. Oklahoma felt the same way. We'll have a lot of baseball (Saturday). Second day of the season will be 18 innings, or maybe more. But the kids are young and they're excited and looking forward to the opportunity."
