Chiefs Announce 2017 Schedule

Fireworks Nights Set for 2017

PEORIA, IL - The Peoria Chiefs have announced their 2017 Midwest League schedule with the first pitch of their 35th season coming on the road in Burlington, Iowa Thursday, April 6 with the home opener set for Saturday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m. with post-game fireworks. The season ends September 4 in Kane County and the Chiefs are home on Father's Day June 18 to end the first half and on the 4th of July.      The Chiefs open the season April 6-7 with two games in Burlington against the Bees in a commuter series and the two teams play in Peoria on April 8-9. The homestand continues with three more against Quad Cities and the Chiefs also host Cedar Rapids seven times in April. The Chiefs are home for 12 games in May, 15 in June, 15 in July, 15 in August and the final home game is September 1. Holiday wise the Chiefs host Burlington on Father's Day June 18 at 2:00 p.m. and Beloit at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4. Fans will be invited to stay at Dozer Park for a fantastic view of the downtown Peoria fireworks which traditionally begin between 9:15 and 9:30 p.m. The Midwest League will not hold games on Easter (Sunday, April 16) or Mother's Day (Sunday, May 14) and the Chiefs are on the road for Memorial Day weekend.

Day Games

     The 2017 schedule includes two April midweek day games: 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12 and 11:00 a.m. for DARE Day on Wednesday, April 19. There will also be an 11:00 a.m. Education Day's on Tuesday May 9. The Chiefs will play summer day games on Tuesday, June 27 for Super Splash Day and a Noon start on Monday, July 17.

Game Times

     With the exception of these selected day games, weekday games will start at 6:30 p.m. in 2017 in April, for the first two homestands of May, and from August 21 - September 1 with the exception of Friday, August 25 which is a 7:00 p.m. start. From May 30-August 18, weekday games will start at 7:00 p.m. Saturday games will be at 6:30 p.m. and feature post-game fireworks, except for April 29 which is at 6:30 but without fireworks. Sunday games will change to 2:00 p.m. starts for 2017 with two exceptions, April 9 is a 5:00 p.m. start after a Bradley day game and July 30 (6:30 with fireworks). The Chiefs will also play double headers with the Bradley Braves on Saturday, April 8, Wednesday, April 12, Wednesday, April 19, Thursday, May 18, Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20.

Fireworks

     Fireworks nights are set for 2017 with 24 post-game shows at Dozer Park: April 8 (Home Opener), May 11-13, May 19-20, June 1, June 9-10, June 16-17, June 29, July 14-15, July 28-30, August 11-12, August 18-19, August 25-26 and September 1.

Opponents

     The Chiefs play Burlington 19 times in 2016 for the most games against any one opponent, nine at home and 10 on the road. Right behind the matchups with the Bees the Chiefs play Beloit, Cedar Rapids, Kane County and Quad Cities 17 times each. The Chiefs only play 14 games against Clinton and Wisconsin in 2017. The most frequent guest to Dozer Park will be the Beloit Snappers with 11 games while Cedar Rapids has 10.  

      The Midwest League schedule again features just three games against each of the eight Eastern Division squads. The two week inter-divisional games are scheduled for May 2-13 and July 12-24. Peoria will travel to Michigan to face the Lansing Lugnuts and the 2016 MWL Champion Great Lakes Loons May 2-7 and then host West Michigan and the South Bend Cubs May 8-13. The games against the Cubs are set for Thursday, May 11, Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13 with all three games starting at 6:30 p.m. and featuring post-game fireworks. The Chiefs host Lake County and Fort Wayne July 12-17 and then travel to Dayton and Bowling Green July 19-24

      The Chiefs' 2016 schedule doesn't feature a homestand longer than seven games and the Chiefs will have three seven-game homestands and two six-game homestands. The longest roadtrip is an eight-game visit to Iowa May 22-29 with four games each at Quad Cities and Burlington. There are two seven-game trips and two six-game trips.  

      Great Lakes will host the 2017 Midwest League All-Star game on Tuesday, June 20 and the Chiefs start the second half on June 22 with four games at Burlington. The first homestand of the second half is June 26-29 against Beloit.
