Eighteen Fireworks Nights, 19 Giveaways Highlight Promo Schedule

Jersey Auctions, Concerts, Entertainment Acts also coming to Dozer Park

  With less than six weeks until the season opener the Peoria Chiefs have put together an exciting and comprehensive promotional schedule for the 2014 season highlighted by 19 giveaways, 18 fireworks schedule, five jersey auctions, and numerous concerts, entertainment acts and VIPs.

     "We are excited to release this preview of our bigger and better promotional schedule that highlights many of the key dates fans will want to mark on their calendars this season," said Chiefs President Rocky Vonachen. "A full list of theme nights and more will be announced in the coming weeks."

     Fireworks will shift to Friday nights in 2014 and every Friday 7:00 p.m. home game from May 30 to August 29 will have a post-game fireworks show. In addition to those seven Friday's there will be five 6:30 p.m. Saturday fireworks nights and two each on Wednesday's, Thursday's and Sunday's. The first fireworks show of the season will be on Saturday, May 17 and the other Saturday night shows are: June 14, June 28, August 9 and August 23. Two Thirsty Thursday's will include post-game fireworks on May 29 and July 10. The two Wednesday games with fireworks are Teacher Appreciation Night June 11 and Irish Night July 23. Also new for 2014 are two Sunday fireworks nights with 6:00 p.m. starts on June 1 and July 27. There are five weekend's with back-to-back fireworks nights: May 29-30, June 13-14, June 27-28, August 8-9 and August 22-23.

     There will be three different series of giveaways this season, OYOs, Bobbleheads and Kids Giveaways. The first of four OYO Sports Toys will feature Chicago Blackhawks and Team USA star Patrick Kane and will be given to the first 1000 fans on Saturday, April 26 which is Hockey Night. The first 1000 fans on Saturday, May 17 will get a Michael Wacha OYO and on June 29 the OYO will feature a yet to be named 2014 Chiefs player. The final OYO giveaway will feature Cardinals mascot Fredbird on August 10.

     Off the success of the Joe Girardi bobblehead in 2013, there will be five bobblehead giveaways this season at Dozer Park. The first bobblehead will feature 2002 Chiefs star and six-time National League Gold Glove Award winner Yadier Molina on Saturday, May 31. On Friday, June 13, the first 1000 fans will receive an Ozzie Smith Hall of Fame bobblehead, with the Wizard in attendance at Dozer Park the following night. Jason Motte, a member of the 2003 Chiefs, will be featured on a bobblehead on Saturday, July 26. On Friday, August 8, the Chiefs will giveaway Greg Maddux bobbleheads, 12 days after the former Cy Young Award winner is inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The final bobblehead giveaway features Chillicothe native and current Cleveland Indians pitcher Zach McAllister and will be given away on Chillicothe Baseball Night, Saturday, August 23. The McAllister bobblehead will feature the right-hander in his IVC High School uniform.

     Giveaways for kids are a feature of the Sunday games and will be for the first 1000 youngsters 12 and under. The first of these giveaways is a Homer Growth Chart on April 27 and is followed on May 18 by a Youth Home Replica Jersey. On June 1 with a post-game fireworks show, kids will get a Glow-In-The-Dark T-shirt. The July 6 game features a Chiefs Pillow Case giveaway and the final kids giveaway is a Lunch Bag on July 27 which is also a fireworks night.

     The first giveaway of the season comes on opening night April 8 as all fans get 2014 Chiefs Magnet Schedules. On Father's Day, June 15, the first 1000 dads will get a Peoria Chiefs Grill Set and on June 28, CAT will have a special giveaway for fans. Friday, July 25 is Christmas in July and the Chiefs will giveaway Dozer Park Snow Globes to the first 1000 fans. On Wednesday, August 6 the first 1000 kids 12 and under through the gate will get a Pete Vonachen Baseball as part of National Night Out. The baseball features a quote from Pete Vonachen and symbolizes the baseball's he enjoyed giving out to youngsters at Chiefs games throughout the years.

     There are a handful of Entertainment Acts and VIPs scheduled for Chiefs games in 2014 starting with Breakin B'Boy McCoy on Saturday, May 31. As announced last month, Cardinals Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith will be the Legends at the Ballpark guest for IPMR night on Saturday, June 14. IPMR Night will also include Dueling Pianos from Spanky Entertainment based in St. Louis. June 15 is Super Hero day with Spiderman and Iron Man from Marvel Comics on hand. The annual Faith & Family Night is scheduled for June 27 with a post-game concert from Royal Tailor. Again in 2014 the 501st Midwest Garrison will have characters on hand for Star Wars Night on June 28. The Jesse White Tumblers based in Chicago will again entertain after the game on July 4 and leading up to the Downtown Peoria Fireworks. The Zooperstars return to Peoria on Saturday, July 26. Former WWE star Sgt. Slaughter will make an appearance and sign autographs at the August 7 Chiefs game. Jimmy Buffett Night is scheduled for August 9 and includes a post-game concert by The Boat Drunks. In addition to the Fredbird OYO giveaway on August 10, Fredbird the Cardinals mascot will be on hand to entertain fans.

     There are five specialty jersey auctions for 2014 with the first one coming on May 17 for Washington Strong Night. As part of the festivities at Dozer Park to commemorate the six-month anniversary of the devastating tornadoes that hit Washington on November 17, Chiefs players will wear orange jerseys with the auction proceeds going to the Washington Tornado Relief Fund. On May 30 the Chiefs will wear special jerseys for Swing For the Cure Night with proceeds going to the Illinois CancerCare Foundation. The June 28 Star Wars Night will feature unique jerseys as will the August 9 Jimmy Buffett Night. At every Sunday home game in 2014 the Chiefs players will wear throwback jerseys designed to look like the 1982 powder blue St. Louis Cardinals jerseys. The jerseys will be auctioned during the final Sunday home game on August 10 with Fredbird in attendance.

     The weekday promotions are also set with Monday's Wednesday's and Thursday's staying the same as in 2013. All tickets on Monday home games are half-price for Half Price Monday's. On Won Dollar Wednesday fans get $1 hot dogs, $1 ice cream sandwiches and $1 soda's plus a free ticket to a future Monday-Wednesday game if the Chiefs lose. Thirsty Thursday's are also back with $1 12 ounce domestic draft beers and fountain drinks. Sunday's have a new promotion with kids 12 and under getting a $5.00 ticket that includes a free hot dog, free bag of chips and a free drink. Pre-game fans can play catch on the field and after the game kids 12 and under can run the bases. Also on all home Sunday's Chiefs players will wear 1982 Cardinals throwback style jerseys and sign autographs.
