Kaminsky, Peoples-Walls Power Chiefs to Victory

Chiefs pick up third win in four second-half games
June 24, 2014

PEORIA, IL- Rob Kaminsky recorded seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings and Kenny Peoples-Walls hit his third home run to give the Peoria Chiefs a 3-1 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Tuesday night. The Chiefs improve to 3-1 in the second half and are 40-33 overall.

Cedar Rapids got a run in the first as Zack Granite led off with a single and got to second on a wild pitch. After moving to third on a fly out, Granite scored when a ground ball to third deflected off the glove of Michael Schulze for an error.

The Chiefs answered with two runs in the bottom half. Vaughn Bryan led off with a single and CJ McElroy Jr. followed with a bunt single right up the third base line. A ground out moved both runners into scoring position and Carson Kelly hit a ground ball up the middle to score Bryan and tie the game at one. After a strikeout, Mason Katz singled past the shortstop, scoring McElroy for a 2-1 Chiefs lead. Peoria made it 3-1 in the fourth when Peoples-Walls hit a one-out home run to left field.

Kaminsky allowed just two hits out of the infield and didn't pitch to more than four batters in any of his five full innings. He came one out shy of his fourth quality start in his last five outings while his seven strikeouts is two shy of his career high. He didn't issue a walk for the third time in his last four starts and has yet to allow a home run in 43 innings pitched.

Kaminsky (3-1) pitched the first 5 2/3 innings allowing one run on four hits with seven strikeouts to earn the win. Robert Stock tossed the next 2 1/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts. Brandon Lee pitched the ninth on one hit with two strikeouts to get the save.
