Peoria, Ill. -- The Peoria Chiefs outhit the Beloit Snappers on Wednesday but fell 9-5 in game two of the series.

The Chiefs started things with a bang. Jhon Torres led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run just inside the left field foul pole to give Peoria a 1-0 lead. It was the first homer of the year for Torres.

The Snappers scored the next four runs of the contest, however, and took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the third. The Chiefs pulled one closer in their half of the inning when Matt Chamberlain scored on a wild pitch.

The teams traded runs in the middle innings and Beloit broke things open in the seventh. The Snappers sent eight men to the plate and scored four runs, three of them unearned, to grow their lead to 9-3.

Matt Chamberlain was a bright spot for Peoria. The left-handed batter hit his fourth home run of the year, an opposite-field shot to left, to draw Peoria one closer. Chamberlain finished the night with three hits and two runs scored.

The Chiefs loaded the bases in the eighth but only scored once and Beloit was able to shut the door late to earn the win.

The series continues tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. Right-hander Connor Lunn will start for the Chiefs.
