Chiefs Blank First-Place Quad Cities Friday

PEORIA, Ill. -- After losing a shutout bid in the ninth inning last night, the Chiefs did the job Friday, as they blanked Quad Cities 3-0. Connor Lunn and Mac Lardner teamed up to twirl nine scoreless frames as Peoria recorded their second shutout win of the season.

The Chiefs again got the offense going early in this one. In fact, the Chiefs took a 1-0 stranglehold after a lead-off home run from Tyler Reichenborn, who was celebrating his 23rd birthday on Friday. An inning later, the Chiefs doubled their lead on a single from Matt Chamberlain. Chamberlain collected three hits, which tied a single-game high.

In the bottom of second, Nathan Eaton reached on an error, stole second base and then advanced to third on a throwing error. With two outs in the inning, William Hancock grounded out to first to end the threat. It was the only at-bat of the night for the River Bandits with a runner in scoring position.

In the sixth inning, an RBI single from Francisco Hernandez made it 3-0 and Lunn did more than enough to make it stand up. The right-hander was on cruise control Friday night. He struck out the side in the fourth, and retired the last four men he faced over six shutout innings. Lunn recorded his fourth win of the year and his team-leading fourth quality start.

Lardner entered the contest in the seventh and allowed just one hit over three innings. The southpaw earned the save in the process, the first of his professional career.

The Chiefs will look to secure at least a split of the series tomorrow from Davenport. Wilfredo Pereia will take the ball for the Chiefs. Left-hander Anthony Veneziano will oppose him for Quad Cities. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
