CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Cedar Rapids Kernels scored the final eight runs of the contest Saturday night to knock off the Peoria Chiefs, 8-2.

Peoria got the party started in the second inning with a two-run blast from Moises Castillo, his fourth of the season. The Chiefs maintained their 2-0 lead into the fifth inning thanks to some fine work from Nick Trogrlic-Iverson, who allowed just two hits in his last start on July 3.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Kernels found some success against Trogrlic-Iverson. After a walk and a pair of singles, the Kernels scored on a sac fly and an RBI groundout to tie the game at 2-2.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Gabriel Maciel tripled off the Peoria starter, which led to Trogrlic-Iverson’s exit from the game and gave Cedar Rapids a 3-2 lead. Enmanuel Solano promptly retired the next three batters but an RBI groundout made it 4-2.

Cedar Rapids put the game away in the bottom of the seventh. With a 5-2 advantage, Max Smith hit a two-run blast to make it 7-2. The Kernels tacked on an additional run in the eighth to create the final margin.

Jack Ralston will start tomorrow for the Chiefs, as they look to avoid the sweep at the hands of Cedar Rapids. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05. Following the contest, Peoria will return home to face off with Wisconsin next week.
