Peoria, Ill. -- The Peoria Chiefs pounded out four consecutive hits and scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Quad Cities 4-3 on Thursday. The Chiefs have knocked off the River Bandits three times this year, winning all three contests by the same 4-3 score.

For the second night in a row, the starting pitchers were dealing early. Peoria starter Jack Ralston was perfect into the fourth, while Angel Zerpa answered with zeroes of his own.

The teams traded a run in the fourth inning. Vinnie Pasquantino doubled home a run in the top of the inning, while Tyler Reichenborn delivered a double of his own in the Chiefs half of the frame.

Quad Cities scored on a bloop single in the fifth and carried a 2-1 lead into the seventh. With one out in the inning, Cristhian Longa singled to left. The next batter, Matt Chamberlain reached on an infield hit. Jhon Torres, the seventh-ranked prospect in the Cardinals organization, doubled down the right field line to score Longa and tie the game, 2-2. Malcom Nunez followed with the second infield knock of the inning to score Chamberlain and Peoria took their first lead of the night, 3-2. The Chiefs tacked on one more on an RBI groundout to extend the lead to 4-2.

Following a solo homer in the eighth, Wilfredo Pereira closed the door on a ninth-inning rally, striking out Pasquantino with two men in scoring position to end the contest and earn his first save of the year.

The Chiefs are back in action tomorrow night at 6:35 against Quad Cities. Friday’s game will represent the first game of the season in which Dozer Park can operate at 100% capacity.
