Appleton, Wis. -- The Peoria Chiefs rallied from an early-game four run deficit but couldn’t hold off some late-inning heroics as they fell to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 8-7 on Thursday.

Peoria struck first in the top of the first inning. After a leadoff single by Tyler Reichenborn, Brendan Donovan followed with a double to left field. Reichenborn was thrown out at home plate while Donovan advanced to third base. He was driven in via an RBI groundout by Pedro Pages. Brady Whalen capped off the inning with a solo blast to right field, making the score 2-0.

Wisconsin answered in the next half inning with a solo shot from Korry Howell, cutting the Chiefs lead in half. They followed with a four-run second inning to make it a 5-2 ballgame after two innings.

Trailing 6-2 after five innings, the Chiefs broke through in the top of the sixth inning with five men crossing the plate. A double from Moises Castillo, a single from Leandro Cedeno, and a Matt Chamberlain walk loaded the bases with only one out in the inning. Castillo scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 6-3. A walk by Reichenborn loaded the bases for Donovan, who gave Peoria a 7-6 lead with a grand slam to right field.

Wisconsin answered with a run in the seventh inning to tie the game at 7-7. After a one-out double from Je’Von Ward in the bottom of the eighth inning, Wisconsin re-captured the lead off a RBI single from Carlos Rodriguez

The series continues tomorrow night with the first pitch scheduled at 7:05 pm. Jack Ralston is scheduled to pitch for the Chiefs facing off against RHP Freisis Adames.
