Castellanos named Northeast League Player of the Week

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs’ outfielder Pedro Castellanos has been named the Double-A Northeast League Player of the Week for the week of September 13th through 19th.

Castellanos hit .480 (12-for-25) in six games this week with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, and five RBI. He led the league in average (.480), on-base percentage (.517), slugging percentage (.880), OPS (1.397), hits (12), total bases (22), runs (9), and tied for first with five extra-base hits for the week. Castellanos had at least two hits in five of the six games during the week including a 4-for-4 performance with two doubles on Saturday night in a 12-5 win over Hartford.

On the season, Castellanos hit .289 in 87 games for the Sea Dogs with 14 doubles, 13 home runs, and 44 RBI. He completes the season as the team leader in average (.289), hits (94), and runs (66).

Castellanos was signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent on July 2, 2015. The 23-year-old entered the 2021 season ranked by Baseball America as the Red Sox’ number 27 prospect. He was a Carolina League All-Star in 2019 leading High-Salem in RBI (71) and home runs (9).

Castellanos joins Triston Casas and Johan Mieses as Sea Dogs’ players who have been named Northeast League Player of the Weeks. Casas earned the honor for the week of August 30th-September 5th and Mieses May 24th-30th. Additionally, Sea Dogs’ pitchers Josh Winckowski and Chris Murphy have earned Northeast League Pitcher of the Week honors this season. Winckowski took home the honors for the week of May 24th through 30th, while Murphy is a two-time recipient of the accolade earning the honor for the week of August 16th-22nd, and September 6th through 12th.

The Sea Dogs finished the 2021 season in second place in the Double-A Northeast League Northeast Division with a 67-47 (.588) record.
