Chavis hits .560 to earn E.L. Player of the Week honors

Portland, Maine - The Eastern League has announced their weekly award winners for August 6-12, selecting Sea Dogs infielder Michael Chavis as this week's player of the week.

Chavis hit .560 (14-for-25) with two homers, 6 RBI, and two doubles during Portland's six-game road trip at Erie and Akron. Also, the second-year Sea Dog had a multi-hit game in five of six starts, tying a career-high with four hits in the trip opener on August 7th. Chavis hit two homers on August 9th at Erie, going back-to-back with Bobby Dalbec in the first inning.

Chavis led all Eastern League hitters in batting average (.560), hits (14), total bases (22), on-base percentage (.593), slugging percentage (.880), and OPS (1.473) last week. He also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in runs scored (7-tied 2nd), home runs (2-tied 2nd), extra-base hits (4-tied 3rd), RBIs (6-tied 6th), stolen bases (1-tied 6th), and doubles (2-tied 10th).

The Marietta, Georgia native is hitting .309 (25-for-81) with five homers and 15 RBI in 22 games with Portland this season. Chavis was a first-round pick by the Boston Red Sox in the 2014 June Draft and entered 2018 ranked the #2 prospect in the Red Sox system according to Baseball America.

Chavis is Portland's first Eastern League Player of the Week winner since Jeremy Barfield on July 24-30, 2017.
