Portland, Maine - The Boston Red Sox have announced that left-hander Drew Pomeranz will continue his Major League Rehab Assignment on Friday night with the Portland Sea Dogs. Portland opens up their 25th season at Hadlock Field on Friday against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets affiliate).

Pomeranz is currently on Boston's 10-day disabled list with a strained flexor in his left forearm. On Sunday, the lefty made his first appearance of the season with Triple-A Pawtucket, working 4.1 innings (ND) on two hits, two runs, six walks, one strikeout and one home run allowed.
The lefty becomes the 48th player to make a Major League Rehab Assignment with Portland.

The Red Sox acquired Pomeranz from the San Diego Padres in exchange for minor league Anderson Espinoza on July 14, 2016. Last year he went 17-6 with a 3.32 ERA (64 ER/173.2 IP) in 32 starts during his first full season with Boston. Pomeranz set career highs in starts, wins, and innings pitched. The lefty won a career-long seven consecutive road decisions from May 31-August 28, which was tied for the 2nd-longest road winning streak in the American League in 2017, and the longest by a Red Sox since Clay Buchholz in 2009-10 (9 straight road wins).

The Cleveland Indians originally drafted Pomeranz as a 1st-round selection (5th overall) in the June Draft. On August 16, 2011, he was acquired by the Colorado Rockies with RHPs Joe Gardner and Alex White and INF/OF Matt McBride in exchange for RHP Ubaldo Jiménez, 8/16. On December 10, 2013, acquired by the Oakland Athletics with RHP Chris Jensen in exchange for LHP Brett Anderson and cash considerations. On December 2, 2015, obtained by the San Diego Padres with LHP Jose Torres and a player to be named later (OF Jabari Blash, 12/10) in exchange for INF Yonder Alonso and LHP Marc Rzepczynski.
