Linares Earns Eastern League Player of the Month Honors

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs outfielder J.C. Linares has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for August.

In 28 games in August, Linares hit .368 (42-for-114) with 12 doubles, one triple, six home runs, 25 RBI, 20 runs scored, a .416 on-base percentage and a .649 slugging percentage. During the month, he led all Eastern League players in total bases (74) and OPS (1.065) and tied for the league lead in batting average (.368), hits (42), doubles (12) and slugging percentage (.649). He also finished ranked among the monthly leaders in extra-base hits (19-2nd), RBI (25-3rd), runs scored (20-tied 5th), home runs (6-tied 5th) and on-base percentage (.416-7th).

The 28 year-old had at least one hit in 23 of the 28 games he played in during the month and finished the month with 15 multiple hit games, including collecting a season high four hits in a 9-3 win at New Hampshire on August 29th. On August 26th, he blasted two home runs against New Hampshire and collected a career high six RBI. Linares opened the month with a nine game hit streak and hit safely in the month's final 11 games. He was honored as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of August 26th through September 2nd hitting .486 (17-for-35) with a double, four home runs, and 13 RBI with a 1.000 slugging percentage during the week.

Overall this season, Linares batted .276 (83-for-301) with 24 doubles, eight home runs, 51 RBI and 44 runs scored in 81 games for the Sea Dogs. He concluded the 2013 season with a 12 game hitting streak. Linares, a native of Cuba, was signed by the Boston Red Sox as an international free agent on July 8, 2010.  

Linares is the 11th Sea Dog in franchise history and the first since Bryce Brentz in May 2012 to earn an Eastern League Player of the Month award.
