Mata fires six strong innings in 3-1 loss to Binghamton

Portland, Maine- Tommy Wilson went six scoreless innings and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (12-14) shutout the Sea Dogs (10-14) 3-1 in front of a sellout crowd on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field. Binghamton took four out of five in the series.

Wilson (W, 2-4) allowed just two singles and walked one while striking out three. He retired 14 straight hitters from the second to the sixth inning.
 
With two outs and a runner on second in the top of the first, Barrett Barnes hit a home run off of Bryan Mata to give the Rumble Ponies a 2-0 lead.
 
Mata (L, 1-2) would not allow any more runs in his outing. The righty from Venezuela allowed two runs on four hits while tying a career high with eight strikeouts.
 
Joe Zanghi worked two scoreless innings of relief for Binghamton. Eric Hanhold (S, 1) pitched the ninth and loaded the bases. Joey Curletta beat out a double play ball and drove in a run on a fielder's choice to make it 3-1, but Hanhold induced a groundout from Luke Tendler with the tying runs on base to end the ballgame.
 
The Sea Dogs begin a seven-game road trip tomorrow in Manchester, New Hampshire to face off against the Fisher Cats at 7:05pm.
