Portland, Maine - The Boston Red Sox have announced that left-hander Bobby Poyner will begin a Major League Rehab Assignment on Thursday afternoon, as the Portland Sea Dogs and Hartford Yard Goats (Rockies affiliate) wrap-up their four-game series at Hadlock Field.
Poyner is currently on Boston's 10-day disabled list with a hamstring strain, which he suffered on Wednesday, April 11th against the New York Yankees. In six games with Boston, Poyner was 1-0, 2.57 ERA (2 ER/7.0 IP) in six games. He earned his first Major League win on April 5th against Tampa Bay.
The lefty becomes the 49th player to make a Major League Rehab Assignment with Portland. Last year, Poyner was named the Sea Dogs Pitcher of the Year after posting a 0.94 ERA (4 ER.38.1 IP) in 27 games.
Boston drafted Poyner in the 14th round of the 2015 draft out of the University of Florida.
