LET'S PLAY TWO: The Portland Sea Dogs and Reading Fightin Phils (Phillies affiliate) continue their four-game series with a doubleheader on Tuesday morning at FirstEnergy Stadium...In game two today, the Sea Dogs will be the home team - game moved from Portland, originally scheduled for April 29th at Hadlock Field...Lefties Matt Kent and Dedgar Jimenez who started the May 10th twinbill against Binghamton, make the starts today.
HARD FOUGHT GAME: Portland scored five two-out runs last night, but Reading held on for a 10-7 on Monday night...The 'Dogs tied a season-high with 13 hits, as the entire lineup had at least one hit...Seth McGarry (1-1) earned the win for the Fightins, allowing two runs over 1.2 innings pitched...Edgar Garcia pitched a perfect ninth for his third save of the year...Mike Shawaryn (2-4) allowed seven runs on seven hits over 5+ innings in the loss.
WELL DESERVED: On yesterday, Cole Sturgeon was promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket...Sturgeon leaves the Sea Dogs, ranked third in the Eastern League with a .365 average (46-for-126), 6 HR and 18 RBI...The Owensboro, Kentucky native went 3-for-9 in two games with Pawtucket in 2016...He becomes the fourth player from this year's team promoted to Triple-A.
MR CONSISTENCY: Tate Matheny went 1-for-2 with a double and two walks in last night's game...Matheny has reached base safely in 27 straight games, the longest streak in the Eastern League this season...Overall, the Missouri native has reached base safely in 29 of 30.
RENDA ON FIRE: On Sunday Renda hit his 11th career homer and his first in the Red Sox system... During a nine-game hitting streak, Renda is: 18-for-40 (.450), HR, 5 RBI, and three doubles...In just 14 games with the 'Dogs, Renda is hitting .400 (22-for-55), HR, 6 RBI, and six doubles.
AGAINST THE OPPONENT: Portland went 11-10 against the Fightins in 2017, but lost seven of 10 at FirstEnergy Stadium...All-Time, the Sea Dogs, are 10-14 in season series against Reading...Portland dropped two of three in Pennsylvania during their second road series of the season.
