THAT WAS ONLY THE OPENER: The Portland Sea Dogs and Altoona Curve (Pirates affiliate) lock-up in game two of their four-game series on Friday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field...Portland has won three straight road games for the first time this season, and hitting .340 (64-for-188) with 8.6 runs-scored-per-game on the trip...Last night was Portland's first game against the Western Division...Their first home-series against the West is June 5-7 against Bowie.
EPIC NIGHT IN CURVE, PA: Altoona built a 7-0 lead after five innings but the Sea Dogs scored 12 runs in the final four innings, and held on for a 12-9 win in the series opener in 10 innings..The Curve tied the game at nine in the ninth inning but in the 10th inning with two outs, Luke Tendler smacked a three-run homer to right field for the game winner...Portland took an 8-7 lead in the ninth inning on a two-out, two-run single from Danny Mars ...Trevor Kelley (1-2) worked two innings on three hits and two runs to notch the win.
HITTING HAS BEEN UNREAL: On May 8th, the Sea Dogs were ninth in the Eastern League in team batting average at .231...They enter tonight's game hitting .261(second in the E.L.) and rank fifth in the league in runs scored at 177...Portland is hitting .327 (125-for-382) with 12 homers and 76 runs scored over their last 11games - 8+ runs in four straight games and at least seven scored in nine of last 11.  
WAIT, WHAT HAPPENED?: Kelley batted in the 10th inning last night and struckout against Geoff Hartlieb (L, 4-2)...The at-bat was the first for a Sea Dogs pitcher since becoming a Red Sox affiliate in 2003 (Marlins 1994-2002).
COMEBACK HISTORY: Last night's comeback win was the largest deficit erased by the Sea Dogs since June, 1, 2011 at New Britain when they were trailing by eight runs...Over the last three days, the Sea Dogs have rallied back from a 7-0 deficit and lost on May 15th at Reading when leading 7-0 after five innings.
AGAINST THE OPPONENT: Portland and Altoona only play two series each season...The two teams meet in Maine on August 17-19 during a three-team, eight-game homestand for the Sea Dogs...Last year, the two teams split six games, with the home team taking both series.
