Sea Dogs to host Women in Sports Day on August 27th

Maine women athletes will be recognized at the game

Portland, Maine- In honor of National Women's Equality Day on August 26th, the Portland Sea Dogs will host Women in Sports Night at Hadlock Field on Monday, August 27th when the Sea Dogs take on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at 7:00 PM.


Portland, Maine- In honor of National Women's Equality Day on August 26th, the Portland Sea Dogs will host Women in Sports Night at Hadlock Field on Monday, August 27th when the Sea Dogs take on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at 7:00 PM.

The night will start with a meet and greet with several Maine female athletes at 5:15 PM in the Corporate Corner picnic area located behind the left field grandstand. Each athlete will speak for 10-15 minutes about the importance of sports and how it has impacted their lives. Afterward, there will be a Q & A for those that are attending. Expected to take part in the event are Pat Gallant Charette, Christy Gardner, and Kate Hall.
Pat Gallant Charette is the oldest woman to swim the English Channel and she has set 10 World Records in marathon swimming. While in her sixties, she has been nominated four times as a World Open Water Swimmer, Woman of the Year.
Christy Gardner is a 35-year-old retired Army veteran from Maine. She was injured overseas in 2006 and spent nearly five years rehabbing before she was finally able to live on her own again when she started participating in adaptive sports. She's now an assistant captain of the U.S. Women's Para Ice Hockey Team as well as working her way toward Tokyo 2020 in shot put and discus.
Kate Hall is a 21-year old track and field athlete specializing in the long jump from Casco, Maine. Hall is a two-time NCAA long jump champion and is the national high school record holder in long jump outdoors with a jump of 22-5. She recently returned to Maine to train for the 2019 world championships.
In addition to the meet and greet, the Sea Dogs will recognize several local women's sports teams in a pre-game ceremony including, University of Southern Maine Cross Country, University of Southern Maine Volleyball, Oak Hill Girls Soccer, Gorham High School Volleyball, and the Portland Women's Rugby Club.
