Trenton completes sweep, 5-1 on Wednesday

Trenton, NJ - The Trenton Thunder (85-43) completed a three-game sweep of the Portland Sea Dogs (59-68), taking the series finale, 5-1, Wednesday afternoon at Arm & Hammer Park. Portland lost all seven games on the roadtrip and was officially eliminated from the post-season.

Dillon Tate (1-2) notched his first Double-A win, hurling 7.2 innings on five hits, one run and six strikeouts. Portland's lone run came in the sixth inning on a solo-homer (#3) by Chad De La Guerra, who finished 3-for-4. 
Henry Owens (3-5) took the loss for the 'Dogs, giving up two runs on two hits, five walks and six strikeouts over five frames. 
Cody Carroll recorded the final four outs for his third save of the year.
Trenton scored twice off Owens in the third inning. The first run scored on a wild pitch. Rashad Crawford delivered an RBI single. In the sixth, Crawford stole third and scored on an error, but he wasn't done. In the eighth, Crawford blasted a two-run homer off Jacob Dahlstrand for the final runs of the game.
Portland was outscored 30-7 on the roadtrip, and have lost eight straight road games. Josh Tobias went 2-for-3, extending his season-high hitting streak to nine games.
The Portland Sea Dogs open up a five-game series in four days with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets affiliate) on Thursday night at Hadlock Field. RHP Kevin McAvoy (5-7, 4.24) makes the start in the series opener.
