Offense Rebounds As Ports Earn 11-4 Win

July 21, 2014

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - After back-to-back losses in which the Stockton Ports struggled offensively, the bats were back on Monday night at San Manuel Stadium. Stockton clubbed 14 hits on their way to an 11-4 victory over the Inland Empire 66ers to earn their first victory in the four-game set in San Bernardino.

Stockton pounded early on 66ers starter Dan Tobik (1-6) as they plated three runs in the first inning on an RBI single by Matt Olson and a two-run single from Bruce Maxwell. The Ports doubled their lead in the second. With one on and nobody out, Jaycob Brugman tripled to right to make it 4-0. Daniel Robertson followed with an RBI double and later scored on an RBI groundout by Ryon Healy to make it a 6-0 advantage.

The Ports hit up Tobik for another run in the third. Following a one-out triple by Bobby Crocker, Zeke DeVoss, one of the newest members of the Ports, hit a sac-fly to center to make it 7-0.

Tobik suffered the loss after allowing seven runs on 10 hits over five innings pitched.

Ports starter Josh Bowman (3-7) cruised through the first four innings as he induced double-plays in three of the first four frames. Bowman allowed only one run in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Anthony Bemboom with runners at second and third.

Bowman picked up the win, going five innings and allowing one run on three hits.

Spencer Trygg came on in relief for the 66ers in the sixth and allowed a run on a two-out RBI double by Healy to get Stockton's lead back up to seven runs at 8-1.

Tim Alderson (SV, 1), another newcomer to the Ports roster, came on in relief of Bowman to start the sixth inning. Alderson pitched a perfect sixth but allowed a leadoff home run to Dennis Raben in the seventh that cut the Ports lead to 8-2.

Stockton plated three more runs in the eighth off 66ers reliever Austin Adams. After Olson reached on an error to open the frame, Renato Nunez followed with a two-run homer to left to make it a 10-2 contest. The Ports added an additional run in the inning when Healy scored on a wild pitch from third with one out.

Alderson allowed a leadoff home run in the eighth to Bemboom and another run in the ninth on a two-out RBI single by Zach Wright, but ended up closing out the contest with his fifth strikeout of the night. Alderson picked up a three-inning save as he worked four innings and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out five.

The Ports wrap up their seven-game road trip as they seek a split of their four-game series with the 66ers on Tuesday night. In a battle of left-handers, Chris Lamb (3-1, 3.30 ERA) makes the start for Stockton, opposed by Inland Empire's Tyler DeLoach (9-4, 3.40 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PDT.
