Ports Bounce Back For 5-1 Win Over JetHawks

STOCKTON, Calif. - One night after being shut out in a one-sided affair, the Stockton Ports earned a one-sided victory over the Lancaster JetHawks. Stockton produced a steady stream of offense that led to a 5-1 win in front of a sellout crowd of 5,604 on Thursday night at Banner Island Ballpark as the Ports took the rubber game of the three-game series with the JetHawks.

Stockton struck the first blow in the first inning facing JetHawks starter Josh Hader (7-1), who entered Thursday's contest with a perfect 7-0 record. With the bases loaded and one out, Ryon Healy drew a four-pitch walk that produced the first run of the contest.

Daniel Robertson led off the third inning with a triple to center and scored two batters later on an RBI single by Renato Nunez to make it a 2-0 game. The Ports added two more runs in the fourth off Hader as Billy McKinney led off with a double and scored two batters later on an RBI single by Boog Powell, who would go on to score later in the inning on a passed ball to make it 4-0.

Hader suffered his first loss of the season, going four innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits while striking out five.

Ports starter Seth Streich (9-4) pitched around a pair of singles in the second, an inning that ended with Bobby Crocker throwing out Dan Gulbransen trying to score on a hit to left by Danry Vasquez. Streich pitched around a leadoff walk in the third, a leadoff single in the fourth, and a two-out single in the fifth to keep Lancaster off the board.

Streich started the sixth inning but did not finish it as he was lifted after allowing a two-out single to Rio Ruiz that put two aboard. Nolan Sanburn came on from the bullpen and got Jobduan Morales to ground out to end the frame and strand his two inherited base runners.

Streich earned his ninth victory of the season, tossing 5.2 shutout innings and allowing six hits while striking out four.

Sanburn gave up the lone Lancaster run in the seventh on an infield RBI single by Jordan Scott that cut the Ports lead to 4-1. It was the lone run allowed by Sanburn in an inning-and-a-third of relief.

Stockton got the run back in the seventh facing JetHawks reliever Zach Morton as Healy doubled with one out and scored on a two-out RBI single by Colin Walsh to make it a 5-1 ballgame.

Omar Duran tossed a scoreless eighth inning for Stockton while Kris Hall set the side down in order in the ninth to close out the contest.

After taking two of three games from the JetHawks, the Ports travel to San Jose on Friday to begin a four-game set with the Giants. Jake Sanchez (1-0, 1.38 ERA) will make the start for Stockton, opposed by San Jose right-hander Chris Stratton (5-7, 4.79 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. PDT.
