The Potomac Nationals want to team up with local schools to help promote reading through Uncle Slam's Reading Program. In 2018, more than 50,000 students participated in the easy, three-step program that rewards its participants with FREE tickets to a Potomac Nationals baseball game and on-field recognition before the game.
Uncle Slam and representatives from the Potomac Nationals front office will come to your school to greet the students at arrival or dismissal and/or appear on the news. All students who participate will receive an official "Uncle Slam's Reading Program" bookmark.
*Note: Only the first 40 schools to sign up will receive a visit. Schools can also participate by simply just receiving the bookmarks.
Students will then be asked to read a total of four books and have their teacher or parent sign their bookmark, certifying that the books were completed. The bookmarks can then be turned in to the Potomac Nationals Ticket Office for two FREE tickets to a designated Potomac Nationals Game. The exchange can be done on the day of the selected game or in advance.
Select your school's designated "Reading Day" and have all students attend the game on that day. 2019 Reading Days are Sunday, May 5th (Harry Potter); Sunday, May, 19th (Pokemon); Friday, June 7th (TBD Film Friday); and Sunday, June 9th (Caped Crusaders). All participants in "Uncle Slam's Reading Program" will be invited to take part in a pre-game parade around the warning track honoring their commitment to reading.
