P-Nats Center Fielder Michael Taylor Earns Carolina League's Player of the Week Award

Potomac CF Michael Taylor had an electric week at the plate to secure Carolina League weekly honors

Woodbridge, VA- The Carolina League has announced today that Potomac Nationals center fielder, Michael Taylor (6th Rd., 2009) has been honored with the league's Player of the Week Award following a torrid showing at the plate over the last award period.

Taylor, a native of Coral Springs, FL, selected by the Washington Nationals out of Westminster Academy (FL) in the '09 MLB First-Year Player Draft was recognized by league voters for a scorching hot run from May 20th through May 26th which included a .500 batting average (10-for-20) to complement a .565 on-base percentage and .650 slugging percentage. Taylor struck out only one time during the week and ripped three doubles, gathered three RBIs while drawing three walks, scored three runs, and swiped two bases.

Taylor, 22, is currently third in the CL in stolen bags (14) and leads the Potomac Nationals in doubles (13) and RBIs (29).    

Taylor, plays in his second season with the P-Nats after a 2012 campaign in which he led the Nationals in doubles (33) and hit .242 in 109 games, the second most games played on the 2012 squad, while collecting two triples, three home runs, and 37 RBIs.

The wiry, athletic, rangy outfield captain with pop in his swing entered the 2013 season as a career .241 hitter in 278 professional games with 64 doubles, 12 triples, 17 home runs, and a.693 OPS. Taylor had swiped 43 career bases in 66 stolen base attempts entering the current campaign.    

Taylor becomes the fourth Potomac National to be presented with a 2013 Carolina League weekly award (In 2013, SS Jason Martinson is a two-time Carolina League Player of the Week, while RHP Taylor Hill and RHP A.J. Cole have earned Carolina League Pitcher of the Week honors).
