Roger Bernadina "Shark-A-rine" Swims to the Pfitz on Saturday, August 3rd

Hallmark Giveaway Item of 2013 Season Pays Tribute to Former P-Nats Outfielder, Roger "The Shark" Bernadina to be Distributed to First 1,000 Fans that Venture into the Shark Tank on 8/3
July 26, 2013

Woodbridge, VA-Pfitzner Stadium will transform into a shark tank on Saturday, August 3rd as the Potomac Nationals will be invaded by the Roger Bernadina "Shark-A-rine" sponsored by: Little Caesars Team Dumfries and Haymarket.

As a tribute to the Washington Nationals outfielder nicknamed "The Shark," Roger Bernadina, the P-Nats will memorialize the fan favorite with a half-man, half-shark figurine dubbed by the Potomac Nationals front office team as 'The Shark-A-rine'.

Bernadina played with the P-Nats during the 2006 campaign in which the speedy outfield prowler bit to the tune of a .270 batting clip and swallowed 19 doubles, three triples, six home runs, and 42 RBIs. Bernadina also chomped down on 28 stolen bases and gobbled 60 runs scored.

This part-human, part-predator collectable figurine rendering of Bernadina presented by Little Caesars Team Dumfries and Haymarket is a one-of-a-kind, never before seen player figure which serves as a depiction of Bernadina's days hunting down fly balls in the outfield gaps at The Pfitz like a starving shark chases down its prey.

The Shark-A-rine has already been featured on the national stage courtesy of USAToday.com and WashingtonPost.com which served as the first indicator of this promotion's dorsal fin sticking out of the water.

"We wanted to honor Roger in a unique and fitting way. He has been nicknamed 'The Shark' for his unbelievable defensive skills, so we did the obvious by morphing Bernadina and his shark alter-ego into the figurine we deemed, The Shark-A-rine," said Potomac Nationals Vice President/General Manager, Josh Olerud.

The most unique 2013 giveaway item in all of Minor League Baseball will be unleashed to the first 1,000 P-Nats fans before the 8/3 standoff with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Texas Rangers). First pitch is set for 6:35pm with gates to The Pfitz being forced open at 5:00pm.

The P- Nats are aware that members of the Nationals' faithful have been jawing at the opportunity to be one of the lucky few to capture the Shark-A-rine as this promotion's lifeblood has been in the water for months now. So, the club recommends fans arrive early and with a school of hungry friends to enjoy the evening's tribute to the "The Shark" to make sure they net this limited edition piece of Roger Bernadina memorabilia.

Fittingly, the Shark-A-rine giveaway precedes the official start of "Shark Week" on the Discovery channel by one day. There is no better way for Nationals fans to sink their teeth into the annual Discovery Channel shark-filled programming staple than infesting Pfitzner Stadium to stalk the Shark-A-rine giveaway.

Furthermore, the Shark-A-rine has been swept up in a perfect storm as the television motion picture, Sharknado (2013), starring Tara Reid and featured on the SyFy channel this year, has garnered national attention and was linked to the Shark-A-rine on various blog sites. USAToday.com recently described the Shark-A-rine as "the Sharknado of bobbleheads."

Paying credence to the original Washington Nationals fan duo that are responsible for the inception of Roger Bernadina's nickname, the "Sharkadina" crew of Terry and Tyler will be throwing out ceremonial first pitches at The Pfitz on the night of the Shark-A-rine giveaway. Terry and Tyler can be seen lurking around at Nationals Park rooting on Bernadina and the Nats while wearing hooded shark heads complete with full sets of pearly teeth to show their Sharkadina pride.

The countdown to the Shark-A-rine entering Woodbridge waters is eight days.

One thing is for sure: the jaws on this promotion have firmly gripped Nationals fans everywhere.

Perhaps the Potomac Nationals are going to need a bigger tank…
