West Virginia loses first game to Hagerstown 6-1

(Charleston, WV, September 4, 2013): The West Virginia Power lost the first game in the South Atlantic League Northern Division Championship Series to the Hagerstown Suns by a 6-1 final Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park. With the loss, the Power must win the final two games in Hagerstown to advance to the South Atlantic League Championship series.

Hagerstown took a 4-0 lead in the third inning. Shawn Pleffner drew a bases loaded walk and Stephen Perez scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 Suns lead. Wander Ramos then hit a two-RBI double to left center, scoring Tony Renda and Pleffner.

After the Suns took a 5-0 lead in the sixth, the Power plated their only run of the game. Josh Bell led off the inning with a walk and scored from first when Raul Fortunato hit a two-out double. The Suns then plated their final run in the seventh inning.

Tyler Glasnow (0-1) took the loss for West Virginia after allowing four runs over 2.2 innings with three walks and five strikeouts. Austin Voth (1-0) earned the win by tossing five shutout innings for Hagerstown.

The Power and Suns will conclude the series in Hagerstown, Maryland beginning Friday night. John Kuchno is scheduled to pitch for West Virginia against Pedro Encarnacion. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 at Municipal Stadium.
