PEARL, MS -- Mississippi Braves catcher Alex Jackson  and LHP Kolby Allard  have been named Mississippi Farm Bureau Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, August 13.
Jackson, 21, posted a .462 batting average in three games during the week. Since joining the Double-A Braves at the end of July, Jackson is hitting .194 in 10 games. He was hitting .272 with 17 doubles, 14 home runs and 45 RBI through 66 games at High-A Florida before his promotion to Mississippi. Jackson posted his best numbers during the months of April and May, hitting .301 and .300, respectively. Jackson spent last season at Low-A Clinton in the Mariners system where he hit .243 with 32 extra-base hits and 55 RBI in 92 games. A native of California, Jackson was acquired by the Braves from Seattle along with Tyler Pike in exchange for Rob Whalen and Max Povse on November 28, 2016. He was originally selected by the Mariners in the first round, sixth overall, of the 2014 draft.
Allard, 20, struck out 10 batters in his start against the Jumbo Shrimp this week. He tossed six innings, holding Jacksonville to two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks. Allard is 6-10 with a 3.50 ERA in 23 starts for the M-Braves this season. The southpaw was named Braves Organizational Pitcher of the Month at Double-A Mississippi after going 1-1 with a 1.67 ERA in five starts during the month of April. Allard went 8-3 with a 2.98 ERA in 16 starts between R-Danville and Low-A Rome last year. A native of San Clemente, CA, Allard was selected by the Braves in the first round of the 2015 draft.
