JACKSON, Tenn. (August 1, 2019) - The Los Angeles Angels announced Thursday that outfielder Jo Adell has been promoted from the Double-A Mobile BayBears to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Adell, 20, is the No. 1 prospect in the Angels organization and No. 4 overall prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. He posted a .308 average and .944 OPS with eight home runs, 23 RBIs, and 15 doubles in 43 games with the BayBears this year. Adell recorded multiple hits in 15 games, including his third career multi-homer game on July 12 at Tennessee. He recently represented the Angels organization in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game for the second straight year.
Adell made his Double-A debut last year on July 31 and played in 17 games with Mobile. He was a non-roster invitee at Major League Spring Training this year but suffered a right ankle sprain and left hamstring strain on March 9. After missing the first 45 games of the season on Mobile's 7-day injured list, Adell returned to action on May 24 with Inland Empire. In six games with the 66ers, he slugged a pair of home runs and went 7-for-25 at the plate.
The Angels selected Adell with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft out of Ballard High School in Louisville, Kentucky. He is the highest-rated Angels prospect since Mike Trout in 2011.
In a corresponding move, outfielder Gareth Morgan is joining the BayBears from Inland Empire. Morgan was signed as a free agent on April 29 and hit 20 home runs in 44 games with the 66ers.
The BayBears begin a five-game road series against the Jackson Generals Thursday at 6:05 p.m. Live coverage can be seen on MiLB.tv (Jackson feed, subscription required, promo code: BAYBEARS) and heard on MobileBayBears.com, the TuneIn app, and the MiLB First Pitch app, with the Countdown to First Pitch starting at 5:45 p.m.
The BayBears return home next Wednesday and host a total of 70 home dates through Labor Day, September 2. The new BayBears Pass is available, featuring a general admission ticket to every BayBears game at Hank Aaron Stadium for only $19.97 per month. Partial plans are also available, featuring a 7-game plan and a 12-game option to receive tickets to select fireworks nights.
