Rays fall 6-4 in regular season finale

PRINCETON, WV- The Princeton Rays (38-29) fell to the Bluefield Blue Jays (37-31) by a score of 6-4 in the final game of the regular season.

Princeton fell behind by six runs through the top of the seventh, but began to rally in the final three frames. The Rays notched two runs on a two-RBI double by second baseman Blake Butera in the seventh inning, then scored one run in both of the final two frames to come within two of the Blue Jays.

The Princeton run in the eighth inning scored on a Bluefield wild pitch while the run in the ninth came after catcher Blake Grant-Parks hit a solo home run, his first of the season.

On the mound, Rays starter Edrick Agosto pitched five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and striking out nine.

Relievers Bryce Zak, Reign Letkeman, Austin Sweet, and Dalton Moats also all saw action in the loss, recording an inning of work each.

The Rays will now head to the playoffs having clinched the East division wild card. Princeton will face the Burlington Royals in game one on Sat., Sept. 3 beginning at 7 p.m. at H.P. Hunnicutt Field. Tickets are on sale now at the stadium, and will be sold at the gate on Saturday.
