Baby Bombers Blast Past Blue Jays 8-2

August 25, 2016

It was a home run hit parade as four Pulaski Yankees sent long balls out of Bowen Field en route to an 8-2 win over the Bluefield Blue Jays. Juan Jimenez picked up his fourth win of the season to improve to 4-3 pitching for four innings allowing two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out seven. Joel Espinal was tagged with his first loss of the season dropping to 2-1 after pitching for five innings allowing four runs on six hits while walking two and striking out three. Both teams return to Bowen Field to do battle Thursday night at 7 p.m.

Pulaski jumped ahead early in the game with Wilkerman Garcia singling to left before Blake Rutherford hit a home run to right field to put the Yanks up 2-0. The Yankees added another pair in the fourth. Rutherford opened the frame with a double before Dermis Garcia drew a walk. A ground out from Isiah Gilliam moved the pair into scoring position before both scoring on an RBI single by Brandon Wagner.

Facing a 4-1 hole, Bluefield cut the lead in half with a run both the sixth and seventh innings to trail 4-2. However, those would be the only Blue Jays runs on the board. In the eighth, Donny Sands struck out but made it to first safely after a wild throw went into right field. Then Gilliam homered to make it 6-2. The hit parade continued in the ninth with solo homers from both Estevan Florial and a monster shot from Dermis Garcia that hit the gas card sign in left center field. Sadly, it didn't go into the net on the sign so he didn't win a gas card but it did help cement an 8-2 Pulaski victory.
