Mariners Rally Late to Defeat Twins, 10-4

August 22, 2014

A brief rain delay couldn't hold the Mariners back (10-4). With storm clouds threatening a rain delay for the second day in a row the Mariners were eager to get the game started, and they did so by gaining an early 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Zack Littell (4.94 ERA) started things out for Pulaski. Littell allowed two runs, two earned on five hits and struck out three.

Arby Fields started the Mariners out with a double on a fly ball into right field. A sacrifice bunt by Rafael Fernandez allowed Fields to advance to third, and Fields scores on a ground ball hit by Estarlyn Morales.

After 2.2 innings Luis Pina comes in to relieve Littell, and pitches 4.1 innings. Pina allowed two runs on six hits and struck out four.

Pulaski hangs another on the board in the second on a double by Daniel Torres, and a single by Gianfranco Wawoe that brings Torres home. Elizabethton gains the lead by scoring one in each the second, third, and fourth. In the bottom of the fourth inning Wayne Taylor hits one out of the park tying the game at 3-3.

The Mariners stun the Twins in the bottom of the eighth by scoring five more runs. Wawoe and Yordi Calderon reach on throwing errors by Twins' pitcher Cameron Booser, and Arby fields makes it on base with a bunt. Calderon scores on a line drive by Fernandez. Another throwing error by Booser scores Arby Fields and puts Morales on base. Wayne Taylor is hit by a pitch, and Torres walks. Taylor Zeutenhorst reaches on a fielding error and Morales and Wane Taylor score. Wawoe singles bringing in Torres and Zeutenhorst.

The two teams will continue in the rubber match of the series tomorrow night at Calfee Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.
