Pulaski, VA - The Pulaski Yankees dropped just their seventh home game of the year with a loss in game two of their three game series against Kingsport. The Mets took tonight's game 6-1 to even the series at a game apiece.

The Mets got the scoring going early as they tacked on a run in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly that scored Brett Baty from third after he walked to lead off the game and made it to third base after a double. After issuing the lead off walk to start the game, Yankees starter Ken Waldichuk struck out one in the first and then two more in the second inning to keep the game at 1-0. Baty did more damage in the top of the third inning with his first of two doubles on the night and he came around to score once again to put the Mets up 2-0. Waldichuk struck out two more to up his total on the night to five in three innings of work.
The Yankees bats never came alive in this one. Jake Pries hit a single in the bottom of the second inning and that was the only hit for Pulaski through seven innings. Mets starter Christofer Dominguez pitched six innings and issued three walks but also had five strikeouts. Pries made it to second base after a wild pitch but the Yankees hit a ground ball to end the inning and left their first of five base runners stranded on the night.
Elvis Peguero replaced Waldichuk in the fourth inning and pitched his longest outing of the year with four innings of work. He struck out three and had one un-earned run on three hits. His outing got off to a shaky start with a lead off triple before a throwing error scored the run from third. Peguero ended up retiring the next three batters in order to keep the score at 3-0.
The Mets didn't score again until the eighth inning when Nelson L Alvarez was in the game on the mound for the Yankees. After a single to center field, a failed pickoff attempt moved the runner to second base before the Mets tacked on two more runs with a home run to left field to put Kingsport up 5-0. Pulaski finally put a run on the board in the eighth inning. Luis Santos hit a single to lead off the eighth and made it to second after a wild pitch. Another single moved Santos to third base before he scored when the catcher made an errant throw back to the pitcher following a pitch and Santos was able to make it 5-1. However, Baty did more damage in the ninth with a solo home run to dead center to extend the Mets lead to 6-1 and his third extra base hit of the night.
Pulaski went down in order in the bottom of the ninth to end the game and sent Kingsport off winners before the postgame fireworks show began. There will be another fireworks show tomorrow night after the series concludes. Pulaski will be giving out free "Big Apple-Achian Rivalry" t-shirts to the first 500 fans through the gates at Calfee Park as part of Super Saturday.
