Pulaski Ends Skid With Waterlogged Win

August 21, 2016

Pulaski outlasted both Bluefield and Mother Nature to endure two rain delays and come away with a 5-3 win at Calfee Park Saturday night to end a five-game skid. Spencer Mahoney picked up the win pitching for five innings allowing no runs on three hits while striking out eight. Yennsy Diaz was tagged with the loss pitching for four innings allowing two runs on three hits while walking five and striking out four. Bluefield travels to Danville to face the Braves. Pulaski continues its homestand with a doubleheader against the Princeton Rays slated to begin at 4 p.m. with gates opening at 2:30 p.m. It is also Pink In The Park night with specialty jerseys being auctioned off with proceeds going to charity.

A torrential downpour delayed the start of the game pushing it back to 8:03 p.m. in order to get the field back in order. With the game resumed, the Yankees took the lead in the second inning. Isiah Gilliam drew a walk before Leonardo Molina homered to go up 2-0. The teams were only able to get another half in the books before the skies opened once again causing a 30-minute delay.

When play resumed, the next run wouldn't come across until the fifth. Wilkerman Garcia led off with a double before moving up to third and eventually scoring on a pair of wild pitches. In the top of the sixth, the Blue Jays looked to chip away at the 3-0 lead and plated one before the Yanks plated a pair in the sixth to make it 5-1.

Those would be the last Pulaski runs to cross the plate but Bluefield tried to make things interesting in the eighth. A walk and single put two aboard before a double brought the pair in. However, a fly out ended the rally and the Yankees shut down the Blue Jays to seal the win.
