Pulaski, Va - The Pulaski Yankees defeated the Bristol Pirates 10-2 on Monday night at Calfee Park and have won five games in a row. The five game winning streak is a new season high for consecutive wins and leaves the Yankees +3.5 games in first place in the Appalachian League East Division.

For the third time in the last four games, the Yankees were able to score a run in the first inning and take an early lead. A number that has not gone unnoticed by the Yankees staff, players and fans is that the team is now 13-0 when they score the first run of the ballgame.
Ken Waldichuk made his fourth start of the year for Pulaski and once again was kept to the three innings limit that the Yankees staff has set for him. Waldichuk delivered his best performance so far this season and made the most of his three innings. He struck out six batters and only allowed two hits and kept the Pirates off the scoreboard.
Madison Santos reached first base on an infield single and then scored when Roberto Chirinios hit the first of his two doubles on the night. A passed ball allowed Chirinos to move up to third and he scored on a ground ball to the Bristol second baseman to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
A big third inning that saw the Yankees tack on another four runs allowed the Yankees to take control of the game. Chirinos led off the inning being hit by the pitcher and once again was able to advance a base on a pitch that got to the backstop. Chad Bell reached first on a dropped third strike where the Pirates couldn't get the putout in time and Chirinos also moved up a base to give the Yankees runners on the corners with nobody out. A ground ball scored Chirinos and moved Bell to second. After a walk and a strikeout, Jake Farrell earned his first hit as a member of the Pulaski Yankees when he hit a double down the left field line that scored two runs. A two-out single from Antonio Cabello scored Farrell and the Yankees took a 6-0 lead.
Both Bristol and Pulaski scored a run in the fifth inning but the Yankees closed the door on the Pirates when they scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-1 lead. Chirinos hit his second double of the game and the Yankees put together a trio of singles including the third hit of the night from Deivi Munoz who finished the game 3-4 at the plate and fell a home run shy of the cycle after he left the game in the sixth with a lower body injury.
After Waldichuk, the Yankees sent Reid Anderson to the mound and he pitched four innings of relief and also gave up just two hits while striking out six Pirates and moved to 3-1 on the season. The Yankees turned to Luis Ojeda in the eighth inning and he gave up just one hit, struck out three and gave up a run in the eighth. The trio of Pulaski pitchers combined to tie the single-game high in strikeouts with 15 on the night.
The Yankees outhit the Pirates 13-5 and have outscored Bristol 20-8 in these first three games of the series. The Yankees will go for their first four-game sweep of the season as they conclude their seven-game home stand against Bristol tomorrow night with Racing Night at Calfee Park.
