Pulaski Takes Series From Bluefield With 7-4 Win

  On a hot afternoon at Bowen Field, the Pulaski Yankees came away with a 7-4 win over the Bluefield Blue Jays to win the series on Friday afternoon. Phillip Diehl picks up his third win of the season pitching for five innings allowing two runs on three hits while walking two and striking out one. Angel Alicea picks up his first loss of the season pitching allowing three runs on three hits while walking two and striking out two. The Yankees return home to Pack The Park in its last home series of the season. Pulaski will face off in a three-game set against the Burlington Royals starting Saturday night at 7 p.m.

     The Yankees took the lead in the second inning and kept it throughout the game. Andy Diaz singled to right before stealing second and coming around to score on a triple from Josh Gardiner. Gardiner then scored on a single from Welfrin Mateo to make it 2-0. In the fourth, Diaz got things started again with a triple of his own before scoring on a single up the middle by Victor Rey. Gardiner then drew a walk to put two on the bases. However, Rey would be the only one to score coming in on a throwing error that allowed him to score and Oswaldo Cabrera to reach first.

     Bluefield cut the lead in half plating a pair in the home half before tying the game at four after scoring two runs in the fifth. But the Yankees pulled out ahead once again in the seventh. Erick Mendez had a bunt single. He then took off to steal second when a Blue Jays throwing error sent the ball into center field and moved Mendez to third. Diaz then drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Rey stepped into the batter's box and hit a towering home run over the left field fence to put the Yanks up 7-4 which is where the score would stay as Pulaski earned another win.
