Pulaski, Va - The Pulaski Yankees lost their game against the Bluefield Blue Jays Saturday night in the second game of the teams' three game series at Calfee Park.

For the second straight night the Yankees fell behind early to the Blue Jays. Bluefield led off the top of the second inning with a solo home run and then added two more runs after DJ Daniels hit a opposite field home run over the right field wall to go up 3-0.
They wouldn't stop there though as they added another run the third inning when the leadoff batter hit in a home run in the first pitch of the at bat to put the Yankees down four runs. It
That's when the Yankees made their move to get themselves back into the game. Borinquen Mendez lead off the inning with a walk and advanced to third when the Blue Jays first baseman threw the ball low to second base trying to get a double play that ended up in the outfield. Back-to-back walks would load the bases for Antonio Cabello who belted a double to the right center gap to clear the bases and tie the game at four runs apiece.
Things started to unravel for the Yankees after that as the Blue Jays took little time to regain the lead. They put up six runs in the top of the fourth inning thanks in part to some timely hitting and couple of fielding errors by the Yankees. Similar to last night's game, the Yankees just sputtered on offense for the majority of the game. As they entered the bottom of the fifth inning they had only registered two hits.
Bluefield added another run in the top of the sixth inning as they put together a few hits and drew a walk before Luis Dorante called on his bullpen for the second time of the night as Alex Mejias came in to pitch in relief. Mejias pitched 2.2 innings for the Yankees and struck out four batters while giving up three hits and one earned run.
Oliver Dunn, who was drafted in the 11th round of the 2019 draft made his professional debut tonight as he got the start at second base for the Yankees. He earned his first professional hit and RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning when he ripped a single to right field and scored Borinquen Mendez who hit a leadoff double and brought the score to 12-5 but that would be as close as the Yankees could get.
The Yankees pitchers were quite literally hit or miss tonight as they gave up 14 hits but also managed to strike out 10 Bluefield hitters. The Yankees will look to regroup and bounce back tomorrow night as they will conclude their three game series with Bluefield right here at Calfee Park with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the series finale are available at www.pulaskiyankees.net or you can call the Pulaski Yankees front office at 540-980-1070.
