The Quad Cities River Bandits showed up at the plate and on the mound following an hour-long rain delay at the outset of the game on Sunday afternoon at Dozer Park. As a result, the team notched their sixth shutout of the season by blanking the Peoria Chiefs 9-0. The win pulled the Bandits within a game of second place in the West.
The Bandits jumped out to an early lead by scoring against Peoria starter Evan Guillory in the first inning. With one out, Colton Shaver worked the count into his favor and turned on a fastball for his seventh home run of the campaign. The solo shot to left field put the Bandits up 1-0.
The Bandits extended their lead in the fourth. With two outs, Cody Bohanek singled to center field. Alfredo Angarita followed by ripping a triple over the head of center fielder JR Davis to score Bohanek and double the advantage to 2-0.

Shaver led off the fifth inning by working a walk and Corey Julks joined him on base with a single. Bryan De La Cruz followed by hooking a double into the left field to score Shaver and advance Julks to third. Adrian Tovalin followed with a run-scoring single of his own to make it 4-0. With the bases loaded and two outs, Angarita grounded a ball off the third base bag and into left field to score two more runs push the advantage to 6-0.
The lead grew to 9-0 thanks to runs in the sixth and ninth innings. In the sixth, Miguelangel Sierra led off with a walk and raced to third on a Julks double. Tovalin drove in both runners with a triple off the top of the wall in center field. Bohanek homered for the second straight game in the ninth, blasting a solo shot onto the berm for his fourth of the year.
The River Bandits collected 13 hits in the game. Six different players had multiple hits, including Tovalin who led the way with three. Tovalin and Angarita both drove in three.
