CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The River Bandits fell to the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 3-0, on Friday night, ending the Bandits nine-game win streak. Clark Beeker tossed seven shutout innings in the win for Cedar Rapids. Ben Rortvedt provided two of the three RBIs for the Kernels.

Rortvedt's solo homer in the second gave the Kernels (21-26, 60-57) a 1-0 lead. Rortvedt singled off the wall in left to make it 2-0 in the third. The fly ball was initially ruled a catch by Bandits (31-16, 68-47) left fielder Ronnie Dawson . Dawson threw the ball back to the infield on what appeared to be a double play to end the inning. The umpires conferred, ruled the ball hit the fence first, scoring the run. Lewin Diaz picked up an RBI infield single in the six, extending the lead to 3-0 Kernels. The Bandits got the lead off man on in the seventh and eighth, but double plays thwarted both potential rallies.
Beeker (11-3) allowed only three hits over his seven-shutout innings, walking three and striking out none. Ryan Mason tossed a scoreless eighth inning. Colton Davis nailed down his third save of the year. Yohan Ramirez lasted just 2.1 innings in his start. Ramirez (3-5) allowed two runs, four hits, struck out four and walked three.
Game three of the four-game series is Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. LHP Patrick Sandoval (1-1, 3.94) toes the rubber for the Bandits. LHP Anthony Marzi (3-2, 2.22) takes the ball for the Kernels. Jake Levy has coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m. on 1170 AM KBOB and riverbandits.com.
