June 26, 2014

Adelanto, CA - Behind a five-run six inning on Wednesday night, Rancho Cucamonga earned a 9-7 victory over the High Desert Mavericks at Heritage Field. The win gave the Quakes their first series victory in Adelanto this season.

The game was tied at three going in the sixth inning when Rancho Cucamonga (6-1, 38-39) broke the game open with five runs off of High Desert's Dylan Unsworth (5-7, 6.93). Chris Jacobs got the scoring started with a two run blast to left-center field that put Rancho up 5-3. Jacobs finished the night 3-for-4 with that home run, a double and four RBIs.

After Jacobs' home run, Jon Garcia and Steven Proscia each singled to put two on for James Baldwin. On the sixth pitch from Unsworth, Baldwin launched a three-run shot to give Rancho an 8-3 edge. All five of Rancho's runs in the frame came with two outs.

Tom Windle (7-4, 3.89) earned his third straight victory after giving up three runs in five innings of work.

High Desert (4-3, 38-39) made the game close with four late runs. In the seventh inning, the Mavs brought the tying run to the plate in the form of Gabriel Guerrero. Dan Coulombe struck out the All-Star to put an end to the threat.

Up 9-6 in the ninth inning, Rob Rogers entered the game to close it out for Rancho. With two on and two out, Rogers gave up an RBI single to Jordy Lara that cut Rancho's lead to two. The tying run moved into scoring position on Rogers' wild pitch to Tyler Marlette, but Rogers struck out Marlette to end the ballgame.

With the win, Rancho is 6-1 in the second half and the Quakes have won seven of eight games overall. They are atop the South Division's Second Half standings.

After taking two of three from the Mavs, the Quakes travel to San Manuel Stadium for four games with the Inland Empire 66ers.
