Meet Your 2014 Quakes!

March 31, 2014

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes released their official roster Monday, and fans will be able to see some of the Dodgers' best talent at LoanMart Field in 2014. Coming off a playoff appearance in 2013, the Quakes are in search of their third postseason berth in four years as a Dodger affiliate.

Manager P.J. Forbes will have a number of great pitchers at his disposal in 2014, including returning starter Lindsey Caughel. The righty from Stetson had a 4.01 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 19 starts for Rancho Cucamonga last season. Caughel only walked 21 hitters in over 116 innings of work in 2014.

Caughel will be joined by some impressive newcomers on the pitching staff. Julio Urias has taken baseball by storm since signing with the Dodgers in 2012. The 17-year-old from Mexico was 2-0 with a 2.48 ERA with Low Class-A Great Lakes in 2013. He struck out 67 while walking just 16 with the Loons. In Spring Training, he pitched a perfect inning for the Dodgers on March 15 against the Padres. Afterwards, Urias was quoted as saying, "My goal is to finish the season in the major leagues."

Chris Anderson, the Dodgers' first round pick, from 2013 will play a major role on the mound as well. The righty became the highest ever draft pick from Jacksonville University when Los Angeles took him with the 18th pick last June. In 12 starts for Great Lakes in 2013, the 6'4" hurler went 3-0 with 1.96 ERA. Anderson will be joined by 2013 teammate Tom Windle. The 2013 second round pick excelled with the Loons last summer, going 5-1 with a 2.68 ERA in 12 starts. Windle also gives Rancho Cucamonga another strong lefty.

The pitching staff features returning Quakes Owen Jones, Dan Coulombe, Freddie Cabrera, Matt Shelton, and Blake Smith. Newcomers to the staff include former Angels' prospect Fabio Martinez, Rob Rogers, Luis Meza and Geoffrey Brown.

Corey Seager will lead the way offensively for the Quakes in 2014. Baseball America ranks Seager as the second best prospect in the Dodger organization, behind former Quake Joc Pederson. The 2012 first round pick spent most of last year with the Loons, hitting .309 with a dozen home runs and 57 RBIs before playing the last 27 games of the year in Rancho Cucamonga. Seager is the younger brother of Seattle Mariners' infielder Kyle Seager. The infield also features returning Quake Scott Wingo, former Mariners' prospect Steven Proscia and 2013 third-rounder, Brandon Dixon.

Tyler Ogle will provide great plate discipline for Rancho Cucamonga. The infielder and catcher was named a third-team All-American for the University of Oklahoma in 2011. He hit 12 home runs for Great Lakes last year, where he led the Midwest League with 96 walks and ranked third with a .401 on-base percentage. He'll be joined behind the plate by Jose Capellan and returning Quake Pratt Maynard.

Rancho Cucamonga's offense features some great speed on the base-paths as well. James Baldwin III stole 42 bases for Great Lakes last season, and the outfielder has 134 steals in four minor league seasons. Baseball America ranked Baldwin as the best athlete and fastest base-runner in the Dodger organization. Infielder Adam Law is also a threat on the bases. The Brigham Young product stole 40 of 44 bases last season in his time with the Arizona League Dodgers and the Ogden Raptors.

In the outfield, Baldwin will be joined by Robbie Garvey, James McDonald and Jeremy Rathjen. Garvey and McDonald both played in 19 games for Rancho Cucamonga last season.

The 2014 Quakes feature four of the top twelve Dodger prospects according to Baseball America. All four of those players-Corey Seager (#2), Julio Urias (#3), Chris Anderson (#5) and Tom Windle (#12) -appeared with the Dodgers during Spring Training.

The Quakes square off with Azusa Pacific University on Tuesday at 6:05pm before opening the 2014 regular season on Thursday night, as they host the San Jose Giants at 7:05pm. Opening Night will be capped with a huge Fireworks Display, thanks to Boston's. It'll also be a Thirsty Thursday, with $2 domestic 16-oz drafts and 24-oz Pepsi products. Everyone will take home a 2014 Magnet Schedule as well, thanks to Allstar KIA.
