May 6, 2014

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Quakes took their fifth straight game behind a five-run eighth inning against High Desert in a 10-6 win Tuesday night. It was the fifth straight game that Rancho recorded at least seven runs and ten hits.

Rancho Cucamonga (13-19) took their first lead of the game in the eighth inning. In the frame, the Quakes scored five runs on six hit. Steven Proscia gave Rancho the lead with a leadoff home run to left field. Later in the frame, Rob Garvey laced a two-run double to left field. Garvey later scored on a wild pitch and Brandon Dixon came home on an RBI double from Chris Jacobs to cap off the frame. All the runs were charged to High Desert's Min-Sih Chen (1-1, 6.86 ERA).

High Desert (18-14) initially took the lead with two runs off of Julio Urias in the first inning, but that was all the 17-year-old lefty gave up in four innings of work. Rancho answered back with a pair of runs in the home-half of the frame. Rob Garvey led off with his second home run of the year and Brandon Dixon scored on Chris Jacobs' sacrifice fly.

The Mavericks broke the tie with a trio of runs in the sixth inning off of Rancho reliever Geoff Brown. Pat Kivlehan's two-run double down the left-field line gave High Desert a 5-2 lead.

The Quakes evened the game with a big seventh inning in which they sent eight men to the plate. With two on and two out, Brandon Dixon hit a bloop single to right field to score Aaron Miller. High Desert had Dixon caught in a rundown that would have ended the inning, but an error by shortstop Brock Hebert allowed James Baldwin to score and the inning continued. Two batters later, Chris Jacobs made the Mavs pay with an RBI single to left field.

Owen Jones (2-1, 6.35 ERA) earned the win with 2.2 innings of relief. He only allowed one run on two hits while striking out a batter.

With 10 runs on the night, Rancho Cucamonga has scored 43 runs over their past five games. Chris Jacobs had three hits for the second game in a row and has now hit in seven straight games. He now has 12 hits in his last 24 at-bats with three home runs and 10 RBIs. Brandon Dixon had season-high three hits and Rob Garvey's three RBIs were also a new high for 2014.
