Rancho Cucamonga, CA- In the final game of the regular season, the Quakes bested the Lake Elsinore Storm, 2-0, on Monday afternoon.
The Rancho starter, Dustin May, was brilliant against the Storm in his first start with a Quakes. In a no-decision, May threw five scoreless innings, only allowing one hit while striking out eight and walking one.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Quakes finally got to Storm starter Jerry Keel. Keel was perfect into the sixth, but Brant Whiting broke up the perfecto with an opposite field single to left. Brandon Montgomery then singled up the middle to put two aboard.
Zach McKinstry followed by pegging a line drive on the chalk down the left-field line that scored both Whiting and Montgomery to make it 2-0 on a double.
Dodger rehabber Scott Kazmir (1-0) earned the win in his three innings of work out of the bullpen. Kazmir allowed two hits while striking out three and walking two in his fourth rehab appearance with the Quakes this season.
Andrew Istler came on to record the final out and his team-leading 14th save of the season.
Keel (3-4) took home the loss, just allowing the two runs on three hits over six innings while striking out 10 Quakes.
River Stevens played all nine positions in the game for Lake Elsinore, beginning in left field and finishing at catcher. He faced three batters as a pitcher, allowing a single to Ibandel Isabel in the eighth before walking Jose Brizuela and Brant Whiting, but none of them came in to score.
