Quakes Finish First Half with a Win over Lancaster

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- On the final day of the first half, the Quakes entered the All-Star break on a positive note with an 8-4 win over the Lancaster JetHawks on Sunday afternoon.
A night after watching Lancaster celebrate the South Division title on their field, the Quakes took advantage of defensive miscues from the JetHawks to pull away in the win.
All-Star Caleb Ferguson battled through a tough lineup to earn his second win of the season. Ferguson (2-4) threw five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out eight and walking just one.
With the Quakes trailing 1-0 into the bottom of the second inning, DJ Peters slammed his 12^th home run of the season to left field. The solo shot tied the game, but it did not remain tied for long.
In the top of the third, the JetHawks scored a pair of runs, but Rancho tied it up in the bottom half of the inning. After Errol Robinson scored on an error, Garrett Kennedy singled home Yusniel Díaz to even the score at 3-3.
In the fifth, Omar Estevez struck out with two on and two outs, but the ball got by the catcher Robbie Perkins and it went to the backstop. The throw to first was ahead of Estevez, but it was dropped by the first baseman Roberto Ramos, and both runs scored on the error. Max Schuh (1-4), who was the pitcher at the time, was dealt the loss in the game.
The Quakes added on a run in the sixth on a Diaz RBI single. The hit was his second on the day and he finished 4-for-4 with a walk, three runs and an RBI.
After the JetHawks tacked on with a run in the eighth, Rancho answered with two more on RBI doubles by Luke Raley and Garrett Kennedy to make it 8-4.
Daniel Corcino gave up three singles in the ninth to load the bases and the tying run came to the plate, but Chris Cotton got Ramos to fly out to deep center to pick up the save in his Quakes' debut.
Rancho Cucamonga finished the first half at 36-34, two games back of Lancaster, which ended the first half 38-32 as the South Division first half champions.
The Quakes and the rest of the California League will be off for three days due to the All-Star break, but the Quakes will return to the diamond on Thursday, June 22nd in Lancaster for the start of a four-game series at 6:35 PM.
The Quakes will return home June 30^th for a series with the JetHawks. It will be Clayton Kershaw Bobblehead Night presented by AllStar Kia. The first 1,500 fans will take home a Clayton Kershaw Bobblehead thanks to AllStar Kia. The MVP gates will open at 5:45 and the main gates will open at 6:05 for a 7:05 game.
