Quakes Swept by Storm

June 12, 2013

Lake Elsinore, CA -  The Lake Elsinore Storm completed a three-game sweep over Rancho Cucamonga, taking an 8-2 victory over the Quakes on Wednesday night at The Diamond.

Storm right-hander Matt Jackson, on in relief of rehabbing Padres' closer Huston Street, pitched six strong innings to earn the win, giving Lake Elsinore 11 wins in their last 14 games overall.

Rancho trailed throughout, as starter Garrett Gould got roughed up for five runs in the first two innings and a total of six runs over five frames of work.

A two-run homer from Storm catcher Austin Hedges highlighted a three-run first. Ronnie Richardson then took Gould (2-4) deep in the second, helping to give the Storm a 5-0 lead after two innings.

Trailing 8-0 in the seventh, the Quakes finally got something going offensively against Jackson (4-2), as Bladimir Franco drove in Webster Rivas and Scott Schebler with a two-run single, making it 8-2.

That was as close as the Quakes would get, as John Hussey shut them down over the final two innings.

A.J. Ellis finished Wednesday's game at 0-for-3 and is now 0-for-7 over two games. It's unknown at this point whether or not Ellis will continue his rehab assignment on Thursday night at LoanMart Field.

With the loss, Rancho (30-36) drops to a season-worst six games under the .500 mark. The Quakes will look to end their three-game losing streak on Thursday night at LoanMart Field, as they return home to host the Stockton Ports in the final four games before the All-Star Break.

Lindsey Caughel (1-4) will take on Stockton's James Simmons (3-1) in the series-opener at 7:05pm.

Thursday night is another Thirsty Thursday, with $2 16-oz domestic beers and $2 24-oz Pepsi products. Game time is 7:05pm and tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field. Go Quakes!
