Quakes Tripped Up by Modesto on Monday

April 8, 2013

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Modesto Nuts kept their own winning streak going on Monday, stopping Rancho Cucamonga's two-game streak in the process with a 3-2 win over the Quakes at LoanMart Field.

Nuts' starter Tyler Gagnon (1-0) earned his first win of the year, pitching into the seventh inning, while keeping the Quakes off balance for the majority of the evening.  Gagnon allowed a first-inning single to Angelo Songco, but went on to retire 13 straight batters at one point.

Gagnon got all the runs he needed in the second, as Quakes' starter Jarret Martin (0-1) was touched for three runs, although an error behind him made two of them unearned.

The Quakes finally got to Gagnon in the sixth, when Elevys Gonzalez tripled to open the inning and then scored on a sac fly by Darnell Sweeney, bringing the Quakes to within two, at 3-1.  Rancho made it a one-run game in the seventh, finally chasing Gagnon, as O'Koyea Dickson doubled and later scored on a Jonathan Garcia sac fly, making it 3-2.

That's as close as the Quakes would get though, as Modesto's bullpen didn't allow a hit over the final 2 1/3 innings.  Scott Oberg closed it out for his second save of the year, giving Modesto a third straight win overall.

Rancho (3-2) will look to bounce back on Tuesday night, sending Duke Von Schamann (0-0) to the mound in his Cal League debut.  Going for Modesto will be lefty Tyler Anderson (0-0).

Tuesday will be our first Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday, as fans can score a free Club Seat to Tuesday's game by bringing ten CRV-eligible bottles or cans to the ballpark.  Gates open at 6:05pm and game time is 7:05pm.  Tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.  We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field…Go Quakes!
